Inside The Abbey

I have realised that my last post included no images of the inside of Selby Abbey so I thought I should show you a couple.

The Stain glass window on the right is the The St Germain Window and although the window was almost destroyed there is still a small portion of it that dates back to the 1300's. It is the only Germanus window in the world.

There are carved animals hidden within some of the decorations that adorn a selection of the small columns in the Abbey. They are not easy to see or find, fortunately for me they were pointed out to me by a lady that works in the gift shop.

The History of this place is fantastic and the more you find out the more you want to know, check out this link if you want to find out more.  Selby Abbey

I really didn't notice the carved animals until I read your words and looked a little closer. The window is awesome, thank goodness some parts were saved. The Abbey is worthy of a special day out, methings.

I have a picture somewhere of the altar cloth at York Minster which was created by members of the local Women's Insittue. I wonder if the Abbey has something similar?

Very nice photos! Great narrative also. I especially like the wide angle shot at the first showing the entire Abbey.

That is one beautiful church! The window is absolutely gorgeous. Amazing that portions of it date back to 1300.

Beautiful photos - of hidden gems! I doubt if those artists would ever envisage their work being available to the world(w.w.)
